The Moonshine Task Force Book 1

From USA Today and Wall Street Journal Bestselling author, Laramie Briscoe, comes the special edition of a fan favorite series. Nobody writes blue collar romance like Laramie Briscoe, and nowhere is it more apparent than in the Moonshine Task Force: Special Edition Series. This edition includes a never-before-released short story, as well as all the slices of life scenes and text messages I've written for this couple. When you fall in love with the most unexpected person, at the most unexpected time… Ryan “Renegade” Kepler I’m the type of man who knows what I want. I make up my mind and stay in my lane, never veering off the course I set for myself. Going into the military? Did it. Youngest member of the Moonshine Task Force? That’s me. Get my best friend’s older sister in bed? It was my pleasure. Age means nothing to me. I’ve seen and done things men twice my age never will. What I want more than anything is someone to share my life with and that person is my best friend's older sister, Whitney. Whitney Trumbolt Ryan is ten years my junior, but damn, being a cougar never felt as good as it did the night we spent together. Now I’m struggling with wanting things to either go back to the way they were or spend every night in his arms. Make my wedding planning company the best in the south? Did it. Ignore the way my body trembles when I see Ryan? Epic fail. Freak out when I see a positive pregnancy test staring back at me? Complete with mascara running down my face and clutching my pearls. Looks like things won’t go back to the way they were. There’s a man in my life that doesn’t take no for an answer. He’s the one who makes my blood run hot, cheeks turn red, and heart beat wildly within my chest. His name is Renegade.

My Review:

I'm left with a story hangover that's rendered me speechless. The book has some lovely light moments but when it goes deep, it takes you under. There is a lot of emotion packed into the pages of Renegade and I'm still trying to process all of it. I love that this book bucks the stereotype with an "older woman" as the heroine. She's started over and had to rediscover her strength just like so many other women have had to do in today's society. Ryan is the kind of hero book crushes are made of: a former military man and now police officer with a heart of gold-plated marshmallow. The only thing I like better than a man in uniform is when he's out of it. Give him a kind and compassionate nature too and I'm done for. I can't wait to see what's in store for the rest of the Moonshine Task Force.

Almost six years later and my initial reactions to this book are still spot on. If anything, I feel like I undersold how much I loved (and still love) this story. And even knowing how the events would turn out, I was still an emotional mess while they were happening. I thought the inclusion of the bonus material was an extra special treat.

I received a complimentary advance copy of this book from the author through Buoni Amici Press.

Read an excerpt from Renegade:

The best part of my night is when I pull into my driveway after a long shift. It’s when I know I’ve made it home safely, realize I’ll get to see my family after a day at the office, and reassure myself they’re safe, too.

Tonight is no different.

However, as I get my gear ready to take into the house. Something does appear to be a bit different.

My wife, Whitney is standing on our back porch. She doesn’t do this often, and immediately I’m hoping something hasn’t happened to our daughter, Stella.

“Everything okay?” I ask as soon as I get out of my patrol Charger.

“Yeah,” she smiles.

I can barely see it in the muted light cast by the security lamps up on the edges of the garage.

“What are you doing out here? It’s chilly,” I reach up, rubbing my arms up and down her shoulders.

November has come in like it’s ready to be Christmas. We’re having colder temps than normal.

Her eyes darken, and her smile becomes saucy. Whitney tilts her head to the side, licking her lips.

This look I’m very familiar with. She’s gotten me with it more times than I can count.

“Ohhhh,” I tilt my head back, before leveling her with my gaze. Rocking on the heels of my boots, I let my hands slide down her arms until they grip her fingers tightly. “There’s something you want, huh?”

“You know me so well,” she smirks.

“We haven’t been married for five years now without me knowing all the signs of when you’ve got an itch you can’t scratch.”

“Why don’t you go secure the tools of your trade, Officer? But could you please leave the holster on, I’d like to take that off for you.”

I chuckle, leaning my chin into my chest. “Whatever Princess wants, Princess gets.”
