My Review:

Ever since we first met Caleb, I’d started falling in love with the kid. Now that he’s grown into a man with the same goals and values as his dad, I’m head over heels for him. Ruby is a perfect match for him, sharing several traits with his “mom”. She’s strong and fiercely loyal and protective. Even though the personalities are similar, this story is uniquely Caleb and Ruby’s. I love the way this story builds. There’s an initial spark of attraction but it tries to stay reasonably low-key for the first part of the book. The connection between them grows in a way that feels very natural. And by the time we reached the end of the book, I was left in a sodden heap of emotional overload because this story asked me to feel so much. I’m not ready to say goodbye to this series; Cruise just reminded me why I loved it so much.

I’m so grateful to re-read this knowing that this book wasn’t the end of the series I feared it might be. It was a sort of cutscene that allowed us to transition to the next generation of MTF heroes and heroines. It’s the bonds of family and friendship between these characters that make the Moonshine Task Force series so special to me, and I feel like that’s the reason I appreciate the bonus material in these special edition releases so much. I like being able to still imagine their lives carrying on after the book covers close.
