Reality didn’t mesh with the legend of her grandmother.  Then things became clear. Her grandmother had hidden everything from the powers Miranda possessed to the untold wealth she’d amassed. And now it fell on me to teach Miranda everything. Vengeance might be too tempting as I try to lead her toward the light. Choices have to be made and time is working against her. Unless she can learn to control that, too.

My Review:

This is a fascinating new world. Though it feels enough like that it could back onto the author’s Empowered universe, so it doesn’t feel altogether unfamiliar. There are lots of threads of intrigue buried carefully throughout this story that make me think we’re in for a wild ride in subsequent books. I really liked Miranda and Luken. Their “newness” to magic made their story even more relatable to all of us on the outside. And their feelings of isolation made them easy to connect with – especially during this particularly in the middle of current world events. Miller was the perfect comic relief and I’m really hoping to see him as the hero in his own book in the future.
