Evergreen's Mail-Order Brides Book 1

"I'm Hilary, but most people call me Harry." "Why?" "Kids at the orphanage thought I was a boy at the start, and after that the name stuck...you can call me anything you like though." "Then I'll call you mine."

Evergreen, Texas’ most eligible bachelor Devon Montgomery does not believe in love, which is why the handsome but cold-hearted ranch owner gets himself a mail order bride who’s sure to be undemanding of his time. Old-fashioned and hopeless romantic Hilary “Harry” White has never been happier to leave the city and be wife to a hard-working Texan cowboy. Imagine her surprise when she instead finds herself wife to an intimidatingly powerful billionaire rancher instead. Swept off her feet, Harry thinks it’s happy-ever-after for her…until she realizes that Devon only sees her as a property he’s bought to do his bidding.

Note: This is a STEAMY MODERN-DAY ROMANCE set in small-town Texas. It has no cliffhangers and a guaranteed HAPPY EVER AFTER.

My Review:

I had a really rocky start with this story. I think this is the first I’ve read from this author and I’m still trying to get a handle on her style. This is extremely short for the story it tells and at times it feels a little choppy. I’m no longer used to a fully omniscient viewpoint so there was a bit of whiplash as the perspective jumped from person to person. Devon is a wounded little boy in a man’s body and Hilary is an angel come to life. Those descriptions sound too simplistic, but those are the characters we get to know. I really enjoyed the ending and it tugged hard on my heartstrings. It just felt like work getting there. I read a borrowed copy of this book.
