My Review:
There’s a feeling in this book that it’s very much part one of a series. There aren’t the big, dramatic conflicts I’ve come to expect in a stand-alone romance. However, it’s easy to see that a lot of care and attention have been given to setting the stage for them in the future. As such, this story has a slower build-up. I also thought it has a bit more of a ‘literary fiction’ feel to it since it focuses so much on the characters. And that’s in no way a bad thing. We get lots of page time to fall in love with Tristan and Amelia as they fall in love with one another, as well as time to fall in love with the land Haldonia itself. They were very easy to fall for. I loved how down-to-earth both Tristan and Amelia are. They may be about to become the most powerful people in their kingdom, but neither of them takes advantage of that power. They’re also not perfect; they have their vulnerabilities and several trunks of emotional baggage. I’ve become very invested in their story and I can’t wait to see what comes next.
